Sun Valley Rent A Car was established by Andrew (“Andy”) Hersey who was originally from Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida.
During Andy’s early working years in Florida, he found and operated a successful automobile paint and body repair business (Andy’s Custom Auto Works). He was widely known and held in high regard for his reliability and fantastic work with specialty cars, specialty paint and body, insurance claims, corvettes, and custom vans. He owned his first car at the young age of thirteen (although, amusingly obvious, his parents would not let him drive it for another three years).
Andy was a big Elvis Presley fan and a huge car enthusiast since a young boy. He collected (over the years) nearly every possible piece of Elvis memorabilia and owned a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am which was his signature car. He was a family man with two children in Florida: Melissa and Michael Hersey.
He sold his Florida business and moved to Santa Ana, Costa Rica, in 1984. Five years later, he had another son: Aaron Hersey. Meanwhile, Andy (busy has he was) started another successful automobile paint and body repair business (Andy’s Taller de Carrocería Para Autos). Therein, was born the idea to rent cars as he always had an inventory of personal vehicles with a regular supply of friends and friends-of-friends visiting Costa Rica and needing rental cars at economical and transparent rates.
Due to international recognition (of clientele), this business further solidified Andy’s contribution to the local Costa Rican economy and evolved to eventually become known as Sun Valley Rent A Car.
Andy’s son Aaron worked side by side with his father for many years learning from him how to fix and repair cars and how to run the business, combining excellent customer service, affortable rates and reliable cars.
In loving memory of Andrew Hersey, Son Aaron Hersey now owns and operates Sun Valley Rent A Car in the same successful manner as taught by his dad.
